Practice Extract Essay: 24 Extract

 24 Practice Extract Essay
In the extract “24,” a serious interrogation takes place. The person who is interrogating isn’t allowing himself to be tricked so easily. The woman who is being interrogated will not say a word to the interrogator. The investigator decides to interrogate her in his own way.

The first scene starts off with the over the shoulder shot and set design. The set design includes the handcuffs, tables, chairs, and papers which showed that it was an investigation. When watching movies and shows, this set design is common. The over the shoulder shot was to record the interrogation and build up the suspense in the interrogation. Adding on the incidental music was before the interrogation and in the beginning, which brought up the suspense.

In the third scene, dialogue was used to start talking about the bomb and how to stop it and was also used for the audience to understand the problem that was going on. The lighting design that was used gave a certain mood. The mood can be described mysterious because the lights were dimmed and focused on the two people. When the interrogator flipped over the table while the person being interrogated was sitting there that showed a Dutch angle. The interrogator was getting frustrated because the woman wouldn’t talk.

The person filming used an over the shoulder shot in the sixth scene after the fact that the interrogator flipped over the table. In this case, the shot was used to build suspense because the interrogator seemed more upset with the woman.
In the seventh scene, a reaction was made when the interrogator seemed very aggressive and the fact the more the woman didn’t talk, the more he got mad which made him madder. It built up the intensity of the scene.

Throughout the scenes, the director wanted to use the specific types of camera angles, shots, movements, sound, editing, and mis en scenes. The director wanted the audience to stay attached to the screen by building up their intensity and suspense.
